Guruvayoor
Ambalam Temple - Guruvayoor
A temple, famous all over India as a pilgrim centre,
dedicated to Lord Krishna popularly known as Guruvayoorappan.
The Sreekrishna idol of this temple is believed
to have been worshipped by Vasudevar and Devaki
at Dwaraka. This shrine popularly known as ‘Dakshina
Dwaraka’ (Dwaraka of south) is in the form
of a rectangle. There are a lot of mural paintings
around the ‘Shrikovil’ (Shrine). |

Sabarimala
temple - Sabarimalai
Sabarimala is a renowned pilgrim centre atop the
rugged hills of the Western Ghats. This holy shrine
is dedicated to Lord Ayyappa. The sanctum sanctoram
nestles 914 m above sea level, amidst the virgin
forest wilderness of the Western Ghats. |

Mosque - Kondotti
On the way to Malappuram, 18 km east of Manjeri,
is Kondotti a prominent pilgrim centre for Muslims.
The Valia Nercha festival at the 500 year old Pazhayangadi
Mosque, celebrated for three days in February-march,
draw large number of devotees. |

Mandir - Hyderabad
his is a modern temple (consecrated in 1976) built
of white marble on top of a hill, dominating the
skyline of Hyderabad. The Birlas (industrialists
who have also built several temples in India in
this century) built this temple. The presiding deity

Kalahasthi Temple - Srikalahasthi Sri
Kalahasthi Temple is in fact considered as the
Kailash of the south or Dakshin Kailash. The protector
of devotees, the granter of boons, the merciful
Lord Siva, the Three-eyed, manifested in the form
of Vayu linga in the Bilwaka grove on the banks
of river Suvarnamukhi. Lord Siva, manifest in
the form of Vayu linga, is known to the devotees
as Sri Kalahastheeswara. |

Pillar temple - Warangal
The Hanumakonda temple or Thousand Pillar temple
consists of three separate shrines to Rudreswara,
Vasudeva and Surya, a narrow platform in the middle,
and the thousand pillared hall in front. At the
entrance to the temple is the nandi mandapa with
a typical Kakatiya nandi. |

Mecca Masjid - Hyderabad
The Mecca Masjid is the largest mosque in Hyderabad
and one of the biggest mosques in India; it can
accommodate around 10,000 people at one time.
The beautiful mosque is situated in close vicinity
of the Charminar. The name of the mosque is derived
from the Grand Mosque at Mecca on which it is
patterned. A room in the courtyard is said to
house the sacred hair of the Prophet Mohammed. |

Nataraja Temple - Chidambaram

Tirupati

The Tirumala Hill is 3200 ft above sea level,
and is about 10.33 sq miles in area. It comprises
seven peaks, representing the seven hoods of Adisesha,
thus earning the name, Seshachalam. The seven
peaks are called Seshadri, Neeladri, Garudadri,
Anjanadri, Vrishabhadri, Narayanadri and Venkatadri.
The sacred temple of Sri Venkateswara is located
on the seventh peak, Venkatadri (Venkata Hill),
and lies on the southern banks of Sri Swami Pushkarini.
There are several legends associated with the
manifestation of the Lord in Tirumala. |

Philomena’s Church - Mysore
Located about 3 kms from the city center is the
imposing St. Philomena's church, a miniature replica
of the Cologne cathedral in Italy.Colorful stained
glass panels depict the birth, the last supper,
the Crucifixion, Resurrection and Ascension of
Jesus Christ. Light filtering in through these
panels imparts an ethereal ambience to the inside
of the church. The catacomb houses the statue
and relics of the 3rd century saint Philomena.
Twin spires rise up about 175 mts to the skies
and can be seen for miles around. |

Nandi
Temples At Nandi Hills - Bangalore
The Nandi Temple perched on the foothills of Nandi
Hills dates back to the period of the Banas, Cholas,
Hoysalas and the Vijayanagar Kings. The temple
is dedicated to deities Bhoganandiswara, Yoganandiswara
(Shiva). The temple received extensive patronage
from the Vijayanagar Kings. The pillars and metalwork

Chamundeshwari
Temple - Mysore
The temple is a fine quadrangular structure of
Dravidian style with a splendid 40 mt high gopura
or tower at the entrance. The silver-plated doorway
has the images of the Goddess in different forms.
In the sanctum sanctorum is the solid gold idol
of the goddess Chamundeshwari, the tutelary deity
of the Mysore maharajas and has been held in reverence
for centuries. |
